3 Tips for Maintaining Your New Home

Congratulations on your new home! Now comes the tough bit—home maintenance.

Maintaining your new home doesn’t have to be a struggle or a chore. In fact, we have three simple tips that’ll make maintaining your new home an absolute breeze.

We’ve compiled our years of expertise into three simple tips you can follow. Come along and learn some insider tips!

Tip #1. Know Your New Home

The best step to take after purchasing a new home is to learn about it. Ideally, you’ll want to learn as much as you can before purchasing. Inspectors can reveal a lot about the structure of the home and any important underlying issues.

Pipes. Learn about the plumbing in your home. Maybe investigate where your water comes from, or how it’s treated. You can choose to invest in a reverse osmosis water system. Water softeners can make appliances last longer.

Plumbing. Get to know your plumbing. At some point, everything breaks. Having a good handle on your plumbing will save you frustration in the future.

Drainage. The exterior of your home is just as important as the interior. Check the drainage in your home. Know where rain-flow will travel in a heavy thunderstorm. Make sure your gutters are installed properly for those rainy days.

Wood. Discover more about your hardwood floors. Does your floor have a polyurethane finish? Based on that response, you’ll know whether you’ll need to wax regularly or not.

Tip #2. Checklist

Make a checklist of everything you need to do maintenance on. From there, you’ll be able to prioritize the most important project.

This includes:

  • Replacing filters
  • Cleaning
  • Placing out floor mats to avoid tracking dirt in

Tip #3. Be Proactive

The key to avoiding disaster is being proactive. Protect your new home with surveillance cameras. If you have a babysitter or pet sitter, you might think about buying a nanny-cam. These cameras can protect your children, pets, and home. They are extremely helpful investments. Another fantastic smart home feature is a doorbell camera.

You can connect your doorbell to your phone, so even if you’re not home you can:

  • Answer your door with your phone
  • Lock/unlock your garage door
  • View interior and exterior of your home
